H2O4ALL will partner with Pioneer Remnant Ministries (Virginia) and Ignite The Nations Global (Alberta) to deliver access to safe water and improve sanitation for the Zamah Village in Margibi County, Liberia.

The Problem

Liberia is a small west African nation where safe water access has been a huge problem for the past two decades. After a civil war in 2003, most of the country's infrastructure was destroyed. Furthermore, outbreaks of diseases like cholera and Ebola have hindered the country’s recovery.

"Everyday our children walk over 2 hours at a time to find unsafe water from reservoirs and puddles to use for drinking, cooking and washing."

About Zamah Village

Zamah Village is a rural community of about one hundred people in Margibi County. Presently, people live on less than a dollar a day, and unemployment is high. Most of the available jobs involve manual labor. The villagers in Zamah face many challenges, including lack of access to safe drinking water, inadequate toilet facilities, no electricity, and insufficient health care. To satisfy daily water needs, people must make as many as five trips each day to contaminated creeks and rivers 3-5 kilometers away.

In an initial assessment conducted in 2021, residents of Zamah Village attested that the health of their village was "very bad;" and children frequently suffered from diarrhea and rashes. They identified the village's water source as one of the main problems.

Without any water infrastructure in the village, many residents of Zamah are relying on rainwater collection or surface water from the lakes and streams that surround the town. In addition, the village's lack of adequate toilet facilities has contributed to the contamination of local water sources. These contaminated water sources increase the villagers' vulnerability to waterborne diseases.

How can we help?

Phase I of the project, which begins in 2022, will provide families in the community with water filters that they can use in their homes to help stop the spread of dangerous waterborne diseases. This first phase will also provide the community with solar panels, providing electricity where the village needs it most. The cost of Phase 1 is $10,000.

Phase II of this initiative is scheduled for 2023. This project will involve the installation of a solar-powered water well and the construction of latrines. H2O4ALL will provide hygiene education classes to the village and the surrounding communities of Blomue Village, Benmue Village, Sackie Town, and Yorfee town; these communities combined have a population of more than 1,200 people. Improved access to sanitation will improve the quality of life in the community and ensure that the new safe water source stays safe in the future. The cost of Phase II is $90,000.
